John Wilson, JMW Moasic
There has been a huge investment in records management policies, procedures and systems in recent years, but those days are over. In the past investment was made in response to requirements to comply with a raft of existing and new legislation and to demonstrate good corporate governance, today records managers are more likely to be asked to justify the continuation of records management services and any new investment is increasingly unlikely.
But records management is not simply about introducing new policies and systems, there is a growing need to ensure that policies are being followed and systems are being used effectively. Records managers need to be able to demonstrate that the anticipated benefits are being achieved and that policies and systems are being used not only to ensure compliance with external and internal requirements but also to support more efficient and effective business processes.
At IRMS Conference 2012, taking place from Sunday 27th to Tuesday 29th May 2012 in Brighton, John Wilson of JMW Mosaic will deliver a training stream masterclass entitled "Compliance! Compliance! Compliance! Strategies for and benefits realisation", covering topics including developing measures to monitor compliance with standards and assess benefits realisation, records management maturity models, information gathering and analysis and methods of providing feedback to stakeholders.
Alison North, AN Information Ltd
In this less than perfect world we are being asked to deliver perfect solutions to support good corporate governance; our resources are stretched beyond imagination and with little or no budget we are unsure of which way to turn and what to deliver.
At IRMS Conference 2012, taking place from Sunday 27th to Tuesday 29th May 2012 in Brighton, Alison North of AN Information Ltd. will present an interactive training session entitled. “Information Governance – How to determine what sort of records management programme your organisation really needs, and, what you can do to deliver it”.
This session will help you identify the records management gaps in your organisation and assess the need to fill them. It will provide tips and techniques to prioritise the core records management principles of accountability; transparency; integrity; protection; compliance; availability; retention; and, disposition, and, it will help you to deliver and embed them within the specific culture of your organisation.
Ibrahim Hasan, Act Now Training
The Data Protection Act 1998
The Data Protection Act regulates how personal data is handled by organisations and gives individuals new rights including the right to access any personal information held about them. Every organisation in the UK who processes personal data must comply with the Act. The regulator is now levying fines on organisations who have failed to comply and recent high profile cases are highlighting bad practice in this area. The regulator stresses training of staff is crucial and all who handle personal data need a basic knowledge of DP.
